Event Overview:
Johnston County Beekeepers Association is hosting this event to help provide an overview partnered with a hands on opportunity for new and aspiring beekeepers as to what’s needed to successfully begin beekeeping!

Handicap friendly event, beehives are wheel chair accessible.

Event Agenda:
Introduction/Honey Production/Brief History of Beekeeping

  • Honeybee biology and anatomy
  • Honey bee pest (mites, small hive beetles)
  • Beekeeping equipment and tools
  • PPE needed for beekeeping
  • Beekeeping FAQ after the presentation

Hands On Agenda - Bee Hive Inspections:
32 spots available to assist with hive inspections.  PPE will be provided.  A signed waver required for all hive inspection participants.   

  • While the first group of 16 inspects hives, the other group will participate in a question and answer session.  
  • The first group will participate in a question and answer session while the second group will inspect the hives. 

Bee Hive Inspection NOTE:

  1. Required Items:  long pants, socks, closed toe shoes, light colored clothing, completed waver
  2. Prohibited Items:  aftershave, perfume, shorts, flip flops, sandals
  3. Provided Items:  beekeeping tools will be provided, protective gear will be provided
